Why Women Over 40 Need a Fitness Program Built for Them

Because getting into life-long healthy exercise habits is hard.

By and July 17, 2025Updated August 10, 2026

Exercise is one of the most well-researched tools available for living a longer, stronger life — and the evidence is clear. Regular physical activity is linked to:

  • Longer lifespans — not just more years, but better ones.

  • Extended healthspan — the years you can move, function, and live independently without chronic pain or fatigue. Learn about Healthspan and The 5 Pillars of Healthspan

  • Sharper cognition — improved memory, focus, and mental clarity

  • Steadier mood — reduced anxiety, depression, and hormonal volatility

  • Stronger bones and joints — critical for women navigating perimenopause and beyond. We cover Bone Health in a 3 Part Series.

The benefits don't diminish with age. For women over 40, they become more important.

We Built This for You — and Here's Why

Every Woman Fitness was co-founded by Kami and Nikki, two women who grew up in sport. Kami ran competitively in college. Nikki ski raced. Between them, they bring decades of athletic experience, coaching, and a deep understanding of how the body moves — and how it changes.

That background gave them something valuable: they were never intimidated by exercise. They understood the language, the structure, and the culture of fitness from an early age.

They also recognize that most women weren't that lucky.

For women starting or returning to exercise as adults — especially during perimenopause or after 40 — that world can feel foreign. Intimidating. Like showing up to a party where everyone knows each other and you don't know the rules.

That's exactly the gap Every Woman Fitness was built to close.

Fitness Should Feel Inclusive — Not Exclusive

Fitness communities develop their own culture quickly. Gym regulars, runners, ski racers, pickleball players — they share shorthand, inside jokes, and unspoken norms that bond them together. Terms like repsbonkingPR, and getting swole are second nature to insiders and completely alienating to everyone else.

Most people within those communities aren't trying to exclude anyone. But the effect is the same: newcomers feel like outsiders.

Every Woman Fitness is built on a different premise. Every woman who wants to get stronger belongs here — regardless of her starting point, her fitness history, or her familiarity with exercise culture.

What You Can Expect From Us

Inside Every Woman Fitness, you'll find:

  • Plain-language exercise breakdowns — every movement explained clearly, without jargon

  • Guidance on where to start — no assumption that you already know

  • Effort level guidance — so you know how hard to push and when to hold back

  • Form instruction — because proper form is the foundation of injury prevention, and injury prevention is how you stay in this for the long term

We also offer video demonstrations alongside written descriptions, because some things are easier to show than explain.

Still Confused? That's on Us, Not You

If you read an exercise description or watch a video and still feel uncertain — reach out. Use the Help & Support function on your Dashboard.

If something isn't clear, our job is to explain it better. And if you have a question, other women have the same one. Every question you ask helps us make this program more accessible for everyone.

Our Goal: Fitness That Fits Your Real Life

We're not here to hand you a rigid program and wish you luck. We want to help you weave movement into your daily life — in ways that work around your schedule, your energy levels, and your reality.

Barriers to exercise are real. Time, confidence, access, fatigue — they don't disappear because someone tells you to "just get moving." We take those barriers seriously, and we build our programs around them.

You don't need a gym. You don't need to be younger. You just need a place to start — and we've built that place for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Every Woman Fitness for? Women over 40 — including those in perimenopause or post-menopause — who want to build strength, move with confidence, and stay active for the long term. No prior fitness experience required.

Do I need gym equipment or a gym membership? No. All programs are designed for home-based training with minimal equipment.

Where do I start if I've never exercised before? Start with our beginner programs, which include step-by-step guidance, form instruction, and effort-level cues. If you're unsure, use the Help & Support function on your Dashboard — we'll point you in the right direction.

Why does Every Woman Fitness focus on women over 40? Because most fitness programs don't. The 40-plus stage of life — especially perimenopause — brings real physiological changes that generic fitness programs ignore. We don't.
